Registration REQUIRED. One large class session this month - all levels welcome!
Welcome to the relaxing Japanese Art form of Kimekomi. This class will introduce you to the basic designs of an over 500 year old craft. Kimekomi means “to tuck into a groove”. You will learn the technique of how to place and tuck fabric into the cuts on a polystyrene ball to create a unique ornament.
A different design is taught each month. You will follow a 5-step process, creating simple designs first and working your way up to Intermediate designs. The Beginner/Intermediate designs must be learned before attending the Advanced classes.
All materials will be provided and will include:
Hello! My name is Joanne Infante, and I am looking forward to bringing the wonderful, relaxing Japanese technique of Kimekomi ornament making to our Library patrons. I am a Mom to Three, Nana to Eight and a former PreSchool teacher. I have been a lifelong crafter and have worked with different forms of crafting mediums, with Fiber Arts always being my favorite. For the past fourteen years, I have been making unique ornaments using polystyrene balls and fabric. This has become more than a hobby; it is a passion. The design possibilities are endless and it is an Art that is easily learned.
After moving here to Cape May County in 2017, I wanted to share my love of crafting with the community, and founded the Cape May Crafters. This in-person Social club has members of all ages, with a diverse knowledge of crafting techniques, and meets weekly in Lower Township. I would like to say “Thank you” to the Cape May County Library for allowing me the opportunity to teach this, and I am sure you will find this crafting experience as rewarding as I do. See you all at the classes!
