The Power of Pen, Ink, &

Watercolor. Presented by Cheryl Knowles-Harrigan

Learn the methods of enhancing a watercolor with ink. The cartridge marker will be used to contour, further describe and embellish watercolors. The many methods of mark making can elevate the quality of the watercolor adding detail and volume. Many times these marks can rescue a watercolor that needs definition.

REQUIRED SUPPLIES:

• Students will need their usual watercolor supplies:
  • Watercolor paint, preferably tubed with at least a basic set of colors
  • Soft watercolor brushes - rounds and flats
  • Watercolor palette.
• A sketchbook for a preliminary exercise and to take notes. (I use Canson XL sketchbooks as they are durable or Canson Watercolor Sketchbooks),
• A waterproof micron pen
• 2 plastic containers for water
• Paper towels,
• A pencil (I use a Bic mechanical pencil),
• Tape (masking, artist's, or painter's tape)
• A white eraser- no pink erasers please.
• Some simple landscape photographs, and two pieces of colorful fruit (not grapes).
  • Pens and some photographs will be supplied. Also, we will take a 20 minute stretch break so bring a snack!

Cheryl Knowles-Harrigan was educated at Philadelphia College of Art (illustration) and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (painting, printmaking). Her graduate degree is in Educational Technology from Stockton University of NJ. She is a Full Professor of Art at Atlantic Cape Community College where she teaches drawing, mixed media painting, classical drawing and painting techniques, printmaking, and General Education art courses for the non-major. She has lectured on art history, art appreciation, and led hands-on workshops for teenagers and adults at numerous art and community centers.
