The Jersey Shore is more than just sandy beaches – the barrier islands here support an entire unique ecosystem! From the turtles of the marsh to the crabs of the beach, we’ll discuss what exactly makes up a barrier island, what our islands would look like without the influence of humans, and meet an animal that lives in each of the many different zones of the islands.
The Wetlands Institute strives to promote appreciation, understanding & stewardship of wetlands and coastal ecosystems through our programs in research, conservation, and education by:
- Teaching people of all ages the value of wetlands and coastal ecosystems for the survival of life on earth
- Conducting cutting-edge research regarding wetlands and coastal ecosystems
- Encouraging stewardship of these ecosystems worldwide
