In this class, we will look at the work of Janice Biala, a wonderful twentieth century painter with an amazing life. We will use her collage/painting “Blue Kitchen” from 1965 as a source of inspiration for a collage kitchen of our own. The loose areas of larger color and small objects that populate the kitchen are the perfect pairing for a fun combination of collage and painting.

About Joel Adas - I have been teaching painting, drawing, and collage to all ages for 30 years. I grew up in Highland Park, New Jersey but moved to Brooklyn, New York in the mid 1990s. I’ve exhibited my paintings extensively in New York and abroad and throughout my years in Brooklyn continued to teach in schools and community centers. My basic approach is to combine art making with some art history and a sense of where certain ideas and approaches to art come from.
