The Jersey Shore is more than just sandy beaches – the barrier islands here are an entire unique ecosystem! From the turtles of the marsh to the crabs of the beach, we’ll discuss what exactly makes up a barrier island and meet an animal that lives in each of the many different zones.

 

The Wetlands Institute strives to promote appreciation, understanding & stewardship of wetlands and coastal ecosystems through our programs in research, conservation, and education by:

  • Teaching people of all ages the value of wetlands and coastal ecosystems for the survival of life on earth
  • Conducting cutting-edge research regarding wetlands and coastal ecosystems
  • Encouraging stewardship of these ecosystems worldwide
