Johann Sebastian Bach’s Six Suites for Solo Cello are considered some of the greatest works ever written for the instrument. Each suite is a collection of five dances and begins with a prelude. But in the 21st century, we are no longer familiar with dances like the Allemande and the Sarabande. Dr. Brenda Leonard will introduce us to the six suites and discuss the various Baroque dances they contain by talking about and then performing one movement from each of the suites.
